
Saurashtra Leuva Patel Samaj – Canada is a cultural and social group/society formed by members with roots in “Saurashtra”, a region of Gujarat, India.
According to few experts, the name Saurashtra is derived from Saura Rashtra. In Sanskrit, Saura means Sun and Rashtra means country. It means, country of the Sun, and there were 12 sun temples in ancient times in this region.
Saurashtra, also known as Kathiawar, is a peninsular region of Gujarat, India, located on the Arabian Sea coast. It covers about a third of Gujarat state, notably 11 districts of Gujarat, including Rajkot District. It was formerly a state of India before it merged with Bombay state.

In Saurashtra, Leuva Patel families are in farming business since generations. They are known as entrepreneurs and currently involved in almost all sectors of businesses and industries including land development, construction, dimond polishing and trading, pharmaceutical, chemicals, textiles, IT, and manufacturing within India and globally.
Their basic quality is honest, hardworking, result focused, peaceful and their lifestyle is to live within means, and very accommodating according to situations and rules/regulations and care for citizens and society where they live and operate businesses.
In Canada Saurashtra Leuva Patel Samaj started hosting Summer Picnic and Diwali events in 2015 in an attempt to enjoy cultural activities, celebrate festivals and social networking. Currently, SLPS hosts two major annual events, summer picnic and Diwali festivities with the intention of starting garba events in 2020. Today the samaj has approximately 500 families many of whom attend annually, and help with planning and organization of events.
